The Minister reminded that our Hungarikums contribute to strengthening our national identity and help pass on our cultural heritage to the next generation. István Nagy highlighted: tepertős pogácsa is one of the best-known and most popular savory pastries of Hungarian gastronomy, which preserves the traditions of peasant cuisine and still plays a decisive role in everyday meals and social occasions.
The unique quality of the sauerkraut associated with the Vecsés region is guaranteed by Swabian recipes passed down through generations and excellent local ingredients. Due to its outstanding quality, high vitamin C content and versatile use, it is a defining ingredient of Hungarian cuisine. István Nagy pointed out that the Hungarikum Committee made a historic decision today, as the number of our Hungarikums has increased to one hundred.
The minister explained that this year’s decisions further enriched the list of our national values based on community and sports traditions in the Collection of Hungarian Values. The Ulti card game, known and loved by all Hungarians, was added to the collection. Kincsem, the Hungarian wonder mare, the outstanding horse of domestic horse racing, also became a national value.
The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that Hungarikums are of national political importance. The discovery, preservation and promotion of our national values strengthens community cohesion and provides an authentic image of Hungary both at home and in the world. According to the current decisions, the number of values registered in the Collection of Hungarikums has increased from 98 to 100, while the number of elements in the Collection of Hungarian Values has increased from 162 to 164.
