100-member Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra – The worldrenowned artistic and tradition preserving practice of the orchestra

“I have two golden straps on my forehead, one is Hungarian, the other one is Gypsy. I do not wish to give up either because both are mine” - said Tamás Péli, a world famous Hungarian painter of Roma origin, whose message fully matches the philosophy of the 100-member Gypsy Orchestra. The Hungarian Heritage Award winnercan be found not only in the collection of Hungarikums, but also in the Golden Book and in the Invisible Museum of the Hungarian Spirit. The world famous orchstra was founded more than 30 years ago and now it is a unique musical formation, which presents classical music, including the works of Liszt, Bartók, Kodály, Hubay, Erkel, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Strauss, as well as performs traditional Hungarian Gypsy music, Hungarian songs and folk songs. The artistic and tradition preserving activities of the orchestra are exemplary in the Hungarian culture and artistic world.
